What is Reflexology?

As defined by the Reflexology Association of America, Reflexology is an integrative health practice which maps a reflection of the body predominantly on the feet, hands, and outer ears.  It uses unique manual techniques to deliver pressure to neural pathways assisting the body to function optimally.

In other words, Reflexology is a form of bodywork where each part of the feet, hands and ears are understood to be connected to another part of the body. The very specific manual techniques target the "reflex areas" of the feet, hands and ears and detect tissue texture changes in those areas. The benefits frequently experienced from reflexology include:

  • Stress reduction

  • Relaxation

  • Pain management

  • Improved body function

  • Sustained strength and increased wellness

REFLEXOLOGY IS NOT MASSAGE

The technique and method of reflexology are very different from massage therapy. I am not a massage therapist.

A frequently asked question is "Will Reflexology work for _________?" And it doesn't matter what you fill the blank in with, the answer is always the same. It depends on the person. I can't/won't guarantee one way or the other if reflexology will work for you. I always suggest we give it a try. If you feel like it's a good fit, then you've got another tool for your toolbox.

Reflexology is not intended to cure or treat any disease. It simply promotes a relaxed and balanced state in the body that can support the body to heal itself. Reflexology works best when YOU are also supporting your body in healthy ways.

Foot reflexology is the most comprehensive reflexology treatment. It covers all the body systems and can provide the deep, balancing relaxation reflexology is famous for.
Hand reflexology can provide similar benefits as foot reflexology, as the reflex areas are similar, but can add to the relaxing balancing effects. Hand reflexology is especially good for those who work with their hands.

Ear reflexology offers a different approach to the reflex areas, and can be especially balancing for the spine, pelvis, general pain, and stress relief.
